Howdy all you kooks n’ kookettes! How’s the summer treatin’ ya’ thus far? Just wanted to roll out a quick update to lay the skinny on ya’…

Just recently flew down to Ft. Lauderdale so’s I could drop in on the Hukilau Art Show and dig on all my fellow tiki freaks. The show was a gas! I sold all my paintings all lickety-split style so you know the rest of the gig was nothin’ but gravy! Thanks to all you Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts that forked over the clams to buy my art…from the west coast to the east, I dig ya’ the MOST, to say the least!! And a special thanks to the fabulous Harold Golen of the fabulous Harold Golen Gallery for all his hard work in putting on the art show, and another big thank you to Tiki Kiliki for flyin’ me down and puttin’ me up…she is one real cool kitty from Hepcat City!

In other Derek art news, on July 10^th the Gallery at the Alternative Café in Monterey, California will be hosting the Garterbelts and Gasoline group art show. I’ll have two paintings in the show. (You can peep ‘em below.) It’s sure to be a real gone gasser so if ya can, man…roll your grapes on over and gawk it up!

Dig this…a little something’ for all you cads n’ barracudas out there…Korero Books, them fine publishers from across the pond, have rolled out yet another amazing tome! “Burlesque Poster Design, the art of tease” is now available through their website. The book is jam-packed with amazing burlesque poster design and even little ol’ me got some art in there…crazy! So all you sex-crazed deviants just gots to get your sleazy mitts on this one, like…nowsville!

Well, it’s almost time for the San Diego ComicCon and I’m so excited I might just flip my wig AND blow my jets! The show is SOLD OUT so I’m sure it’ll be busier than a two-dollar hooker with bunk beds and a fold-out couch! I’ve got a whole mess of new stuff I’m debuting at the show so be sure to make your way to booth #4900. I’ll be there with my business partner Stuart Sandler (of Font Diner fame) so drop in on us and dig all the crazy newness!

If you’re gonna be at ComicCon for preview night (Wednesday July 22) I’ll have a VERY limited edition preview night exclusive print available entitled “Shore Leave” (see below)

Also I’m bringin a good bit of original art to the show as well. I’ll have original pencils, inks, and even full color sketches ripped right outta’ my personal sketch pads. (I’ve added a few snaps below)

And dig this…it looks like them far-out fez-makers of Fez-O-Rama will be rollin’ out a new “Deluxe” version of my “royal order of Hipsters” fez. By all accounts, she promises to be a real beaut! Them fez cats are using a new embossing technique that will make the “Hipster’s Deluxe Fez” a must have! Guaranteed to send you straight into orbit! It’s gonna be another small run so get ‘em before they’re gone daddy gone!

Another very limited item produced exclusively for the ComicCon is the “Daddy-O Goose’s real gone rhymes” serigraph set. 3 12” x 12” signed and numbered serigraphs packaged in a screen printed folder “Ooh doggie! She shore is a fancy sight to behold!” (You can see snaps of the cover and all 3 prints below)

And let’s not forget the mind-blowin revolutionary “3-D Derek Acryligraphs”, a very-limited edition hand-made framed 3-D serigraph that will surely pull you dead to the curb! Just wanted to lay a little news update on ya’ to remind all you art snobs that this week I’ll be flyin’ down to the Hukilau in Ft. Lauderdale, and droppin’ in on the Hukilau art show opening. The art show will debut on June 11^th from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Bahia Cabana Resort. A whole gaggle of way-talented tiki artists will be represented so you just gotta’ be there for this one…she’s sure to be one ever-lovin’ hoot! I myself will be the “featured” artist (well, la-dee-da!) I’ve got 7 pieces in the show for you to roll your marbles on…(see all 7 below) If anything really fries your wig and you decide you gotta’ snag it while the snaggin’ is good, contact Harold Golen at hgolen@aol.com. Looks like I’ll also be hangin’ around the Hukilau on Friday signin’ copies of my book, “Wildsville”, so hop on your feet and make with the meet n’ greet!

In other news…I worked up the design for the new Tiki Oasis “Tiki Surf City” mug and just recently peeped the sculpts, and I gotta say…Wowsville, man! Miles at Munktiki is the cat what laid out the sculpts and boy howdy he did it up right! She’s gonna’ be a limited edition run so git yours all quick-like or you’re sure to be one unhappy pappy!

If your knowledge box isn’t familiar with the band Clouseaux, do your hear-holes a favor and snatch up their upcoming set of 3 very limited 45’s. This way-talented group of cats hired me to make with some cover art for the 45’s. You gotta’ pony up the bread for all 3 in the set ‘cause when you lay ‘em out side by side you get to eyeball the whole scene, know what I mean? Ok cats…I gotta lay it on ya’ straight-like. I’m jumpier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin’ chairs! The San Diego ComicCon is fast-approaching and it looks like all my frantic scribblin’ and wild paint slingin’ is gonna’ result in a whole crazy mess of new stuff for the show! 9 new full-size serigraphs, a very-limited edition 3 serigraph set of “Beat” style nursery rhymes, 21 super-mini serigraphs (for all you cost-conscious cats), some way-out hand-painted items, original sketches and much, much more! I’ll also be debutting 2 Derek “3-D Acryligraphs”. This revolutionary new serigraph piece is guaranteed to flip your lid AND fry your p-nut! Howdy cats n’ kittens…
Spring is bustin out like slacks on a fat cat, so it’s time to get outta the cella’, Stella! Split the stable, Mabel! Time for all you kooks to run like crazies thru the daises with wild naked abandon! I’d be right out there with ya’ if I could, but I’m just too busy makin’ with the art bit. I got no time for naked daisy runnin’! I’ve got lots of gigs in the hopper so sit back for a short spell and lemme lay it on ya…

I’m scribblin’ out a whole mess of new serigraphs for ya…”Here a chick…” is on it’s way to the printer and she’s shore to be a real beaut! Yeee-Hawww! Also, for all you beatniks on a budget, I’m makin’ with some super-mini prints that are guaranteed to pull you dead to the curb, Herb! 21 different designs…All hand-pulled serigraphs, all signed, and all dirt-cheap! A bailout for the beats!

Dig this…I’ve been invited by the fabulous Tiki Kiliki and the equally fab Harold Golen (of Miami’s Harold Golen Gallery) to be the featured artist at this year’s Hukilau Tiki Art Show. Hot damn! They’re crackin’ the whip, so I’m makin’ the trip. The Hukilau event is held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from June 11th thru the 14th. The art show opening will be held on Thurs. June 11 from 6pm til 7:30pm so if you’re gonna’ be around you just gotta’ drop in and say “howdy”. I’ll have 5 paintings in the show as well as two hand-painted Tiki Farm “Moai Suave” mugs.

Another gig in the works is a print show at the Castor and Pollux Gallery in the UK. The show will run from June 26th thru July 20th. On display will be my newest serigraphs as well as some of my old favorites. They’ll also have signed copies of my book, “Wildsville, the art of Derek Yaniger”. Should be a jolly big hoot! Be there if ya’ can, man.

Them far-out cats at Korero Books have done it again! They just released “Tiki Mugs, cult artifacts of Polynesian Pop” and she is one slick piece of work! Written by the very talented Jay Strongman and with a foreword by my good friend Holden Westland, (of Tiki Farm fame) how could ya’ go wrong? I created 5 new pieces of art for the book and was tickled all pink-like to find several of my tiki mugs featured in the book as well…This tiki tome is a must for all you mug-maniacs, so put down that fog cutter and stagger on over to Korero Books and snag one for your own good self!

I just finished up a one color T-shirt design for the California-based rockabilly/surf trio the Del Reys. Them cats swing like sixteen, so you know I was over the moon when they laid the gig on me…crazy!

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, I’ll be makin’ with the San Diego ComicCon bit this comin’ July. I’m hoppin’ like a cricket at a frog rodeo to get ready for the show! I’ll have a whole slew of new for all you chicks n’ chucks to eyeball, including fresh-baked serigraphs, VERY limited-edition hand-painted items and a few tip-top secret pieces in the works that are sure to rocket you hipsters all the way to Endsville! I’ll lay a little more details on ya’ as we get closer to showtime, but for now…I gotta’ feel from the gig, catch ya’ later, dig?

            Just wanted to top off your coconuts with a little reminder that I’m gonna be makin’ the WonderCon scene this comin’ weekend. If you’re gonna’ be in the San Francisco area you just gotta’ take the shoe-leather express over to the Moscone Center and drop in for a spell. You can meet n’ greet me in the Artist’s Alley from Friday the 27^th thru Sunday the 1^st. I’ll be debutin’ 3 brand spankin’ new serigraphs at the show…”Tapped”, “Every Pad Needs a Hi-Fi”, and “Drunk Descending a Staircase”. All of these are edition sizes of 50…once they’re gone, they’re gonesville!

            I’m also bringin’ a VERY limited edition of hand-painted Tiki Farm mugs. All you tiki freaks will dig ‘em the most! I’ll only have two out of an edition of 10 at the show so get ‘em while they’re get-able.

Ok…dig this…I’m gonna’ be attending this year’s WonderCon show in San Francisco. The show will be held at the Moscone Center South from Feb. 27^th thru Mar 1^st. I landed a spot in the Artist’s Alley so…if you’re able, Mable…fall by and say “howdy!” And just in time for the gig I’ll be rollin’ out some new serigraphs. “Drunk Descending a Staircase” “Tapped” and if I put some peppers in my pitty-pats maybe I’ll jump enough to have a third one ready to roll…All she is now is a sketch called “Every Pad Needs a Hi-Fi” .

In other Dereknews… I just saw a snap of my new tiki decanter produced by them far-out flipsters from the Farm…Tiki Farm that is. I dig it like crazy! It drives me batty-o, Daddy-o! Should be available for sale this spring so make with the beeline bit and buzz on over to the Farm to eyeball it.

I’ve slapped a few new scribbles on my illustration page so please steal a tock or two and gawk ‘em up! Below is a copy of some cd art I just finished for Jazzman Records in the U.K. There’s a “nudie” version of the front cover but the only way you pervos can peep it is to lay down the lettuce and git a copy for your own filthy self. They tell me it “swings like sixteen!”

I’ve been scribblin’ to beat the band these days…Just finished a batch of illustrations for an upcoming tiki mug book to be published by them koo koo cats at Korero Books. I’ve added the five images created for the book as well as 3 other new pieces to my illustration page, so roll your grapes on over and peep ‘em!

Howdy kids…My book, “Wildsville, the art of Derek Yaniger” is finally here! She’s 112 pages stuffed to the gills with tiki freaks, hillbillies, beats and boozers. It’s got a hardcover with a right fancy embossed dust jacket and is and is a must for all you hipsters who dig a real gone gig! I’ll have a limited edition of only 200 signed and numbered copies and just to gas it up a bit, I’ll be randomly placing an original signed pencil sketch in 20 of the 200. So dig out that lucky rabbit’s foot and make sure you got that horseshoe hangin’ points up and maybe Lady Luck will plant one square on your kisser! I’m also rollin out two new serigraphs that I dig like crazy, Daisy! The first is “Aloha from Hawaii”…it’s based on a painting that just sold at the fabulous Outré Gallery in Australia. In other news…those far out farmers at Tiki Farm just released my newest mug, “Moai Suave”…them clean lines and that velvety black finish make this one sexy mug…and how! So sexy, in fact, that after I first eyed it, I walked funny for a week! I love that damn thing so much its unnatural! Hop a way out wagon to the Farm and dig one up for your own self!

    Halloween is creepin’ up real quicklike, but put the square wheels on that boo buggy…first you gotta’ get your ghoulish grabbers on my new serigraphs. “Boris” and “DeVille’s Pad” are available now at Mr. Retro. Released just in time for all you groovy ghouls and crazy creeps who dig Halloween the MOST!!!

Also, my second show at the fabulous Outré Gallery in Australia is comin’ up on Oct. 17th. I sent 8 paintings down under as well as a batch of new prints. Martin McIntosh, the ding dong daddy of Outré, will also be taking orders for signed copies of my new book “Wildsville, the Art of Derek Yaniger”. Howdy all you hip cats and koo koo kittens! Hope you all dug a swell summer…The Atlanta DragonCon show was a real gasser! Met a whole gaggle of super-swell clydes and sold a heap of prints to boot. Highlights would have to include meeting fellow artists Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, and Shane Glines. I’m a big fan of all 3 of these cats so meetin’ with ‘em in person was extry gravy on my po-taters! The bigger they is…the nicer they is!
